Best thing I ever did was to disable push e-mail, delete Gtalk from my iPhone
I recently quit my plush, full-time job, elected to start writing full-time and open my own coworking space. This change meant more time with my family, but would that time with my family be as valuable as I wanted it to be, if I was still on my phone chatting away on Gtalk or checking e-mails the second I heard the beep? No. It would be worthless.
I knew this. So I disabled push e-mail on my iPhone as well as deleted any instant messaging clients I had installed, eliminating Gtalk. iMessage is now the way to get ahold of me outside of business hours, and not many have that information.
So, Mon-Fri between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., go ahead talk my face off. After that, you’re just going to have to wait.
(Next on the list is disabling Twitter notifications. Eventually)
